Shein calls for more efforts to promote Islamic banking

Zanzibar. President and Chairman of Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar Dr Ali Mohammed Shein has argued over an intensified Islamic banking services in the isles.

He made a call over the weekend during an iftar hosted by National Bank of Commerce (NBC) to the banks’ customers in Zanzibar.

President Dr Shein urged the bank to intensify its services, mainly the use of technology in offering financial services.

NBC Limited is among of local banks which offer Islamic banking services which is interest free and is offered for both Muslims and non-Muslims.

“Our economy in Zanzibar has been doing better from year to year and this can also be attributed to various financial institutions including NBC,” he said.

The NBC Acting Board Chairman, Dr Kassim Hussein, said the bank offers Islamic banking services which is open to everybody regardless of their faith.

The services offered through Islamic banking are Islamic savings, Islamic current, Islamic business and Islamic corporate accounts.

“These products are interest free, in compliance with Islamic laws, and are open to any customers who are interested regardless of their faiths,” he said.

“The bank is focused on expanding the products offered under this proposition to reach out and benefit many customers who seek these products.”

Dr. Hussein said the bank understands the significance of the Holy Month of Ramadhan as a key pillar in Islam and as such we believe there is no better time to sit with our customers and express our sincere gratitude for their continuous support than through this Iftar.

He added: “We always look for opportunities to work together with our Islamic banking customers in order to identify gaps where we need to improve our services to meet clients’ expectations.”
