Board leadership awards gala on Friday

THE inaugural Best Board Leadership Award (BBLA) gala for banking and insurance is to be held in Dar es Salaam tomorrow, organisers said on Wednesday.

BBLA Coordinator, Ms Neema Gerald, said banks that would participate are CRDB Bank, Tanzania Postal Bank and Exim Bank. She listed insurance firms as Heritage Insurance, Alliance Insurance Corporation, Alliance Life Assurance and Strategis Insurance (T) Limited.

According to Ms Neema, the Award for banking and insurance firms becomes the only initiative which aims to spotlight and recognise outstanding leadership for board of directors in the two industries.

“I thank the companies which have shown interest in participating in this notable event. The award seeks to celebrate excellence in the group of people that are entrusted with responsibilities of making decisions on behalf of shareholders,” she said.

According to the coordinator, BBLA will give an insight of how a best board can help an organisation to flourish and achieve best performance in the area of its specialisation.

“We have seen a need to identify and appreciate valuable inputs board members give to their organisations. We believe that behind every success of a financial organisation, there is a very strong and active board of directors. Now, these values that most of board members have should be recognised and appreciated,” she said. Speaking of the Awards, Mr Laurence Mwangoka, Serena Hotel Sales Manager, whose firm is among the sponsors of the awards said the organisers have introduced the awards at the right time in Tanzania when the two sectors are realizing drastic changes in terms of their development Apart from Serena Hotel other sponsors of the coveted event include IPP Media, Real PR Solutions Limited, Afrimax Strategic Partnerships Limited and Capital Plus International as more sponsors are being urged to step-forward and support the awards.
